A holiday without a MacBook : accessing my Mac from an iPad
My MacBook stays on in Lyon while I’m on holiday in Greece. Tailscale, SSH, tmux and Mosh let me access it from my iPad, even when I switch between networks.
These are my first proper holidays in six years, and switching off completely is hard... I wanted to keep a connection, just in case. Do you feel that way too?

So I left the MacBook running in Lyon and headed to Greece with an iPad.
The same private network
Tailscale puts the iPad and the Mac on the same private network. No ports to open on the router, no home VPN to maintain. The two devices can reach each other as if they were in the same room.
A session that stays alive
An SSH connection and tmux keep the session alive. I close the iPad, open it again the next day, and my windows and logs are right where I left them.
From Wi-Fi to 5G
Mosh handles the network switch. When the iPad moves from Wi-Fi to 5G, the session stays put. I keep typing as if nothing happened.
